Kid Art

I ended the old year by organizing the kids’ art stuff, which was getting out of hand. In the process, I found a ton of art that I hadn’t photographed yet. So here we are. Happy new year.

I love how Silas’ pictures tell a story. His characters have real facial expressions, intention, and relationships. His influences are clear–comic books, Pokemon, and Wizard of Oz feature prominently–but I can see how he’s using those things as a jumping-off point for his own expression.

Petra’s drawings are coming along, too. One key difference is that she uses colors. She’s still very into doing abstracts in watercolor, but is definitely moving toward a more representational style with markers and pens. She mostly draws people, with a few monsters and Totoros.
