Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.
I think my favorite place in Lisbon was the Jardins da Agua. That seems kind of random because I also loved the castle and the monastery and the old part of the city; this was in a very modern section, an area we probably wouldn’t have visited on purpose.
We were trying to catch a train to go to Evora, where apparently there is a chapel made of human bones, but in Lisbon, you have to be on the train 15 minutes early, and we missed the train entirely, not knowing this.
To salvage our morning, we looked on a map for what was nearby, shrugged, and walked to the Jardins da Agua. It was a delightful surprise. It’s basically a series of interactive fountains and water features, with places to play and splash or just appreciate the movement and stillness of water.
